Coming to cinemas... Fringe comedy
EDINBURGH Fringe shows – are to be aired in cinemas across the UK. Digital arts company Hibrow will record eight shows at the Summerhall venue in the afternoon, and air them on 30 Odeon screens in the evening. Most are theatre presentations, but it also includes a sets from musical duo Jonny & The Baptists, sketch quartet Four Screws Loose and Sarah Louise Young as Cabaret Whore.
GIVE OUT GIRLS, the new sitcom about a group of promo girls starring former X Factor contestant Diana Vickers,is to switch channel. The show, which also stars Kerry Howard, Miranda Hennessy, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Cariad Lloyd was commissioned by Sky Living, but it will now air on Comedy Central. It was written by Tony MacMurray and stand-up Hatty Ashdown.
CHANNEL 4’s comedy drama The Mimic attached 541,000 vewers when it returned for a second series on Wednesday
TALENTED new comedy writers from Northern Ireland are being sought in a new initiative. Successful applicants in Craic Off get a £1,000 pilot script commission plus mentoring from top industry experts. Applicants must be living and working in Northern Ireland and need to submit a 15-30 minute narrative script once entries open on September 15. Click here for details.
THE line-up has been announced for the Edinburgh Comedy Gala fundraiser at the Fringe. The event, at the Playhouse on August,19, raises money for the Waverley Care charity for people with HIV and Aids and is organised by top agents Off The Kerb, featuring many of its acts plus other festival favourites. The event will be hosted by Kevin Bridges and Seann Walsh and features:Andrew Lawrence, Cardinal Burns, Romesh Ranganathan, Ivo Graham, Suzi Ruffell, Henry Paker, Angela Barnes, Marlon Davis, Shappi Khorsandi, Andrew Ryan, Des Bishop, Des Clarke, Mark Watson, James Acaster, Lucy Beaumont, Nish Kumar, Lloyd Langford, The Noise Next Door and Ed Gamble. – with less than half the audience of the first series opener.
