V festival announces some female comics. At last

THE V festival has announced more names for its stand-up tent – including its first female comedians.

The event, which takes place in Staffordshire and Essex on the weekend of August 16, was roundly criticised when it announced 26 comics last month – all of them male.

However, today it has announced that Canadian acts Dana Alexander and Allyson Smith have jointed the line-up, curated by the Glee Club.

Boothby Graffoe and Mark Olver will also be appearing on the stage, which is headlined by Alan Carr and Adam Hills, organisers announced today.

Previously announced names include internet comic Dapper Laughs, who bills himself as ‘a proper lad’ and who has been dubbed ‘Roy Chubby Brown with a smartphone.’

Today's line-up additions also include former X Factor winner James Arthur, who previously landed in trouble for making homophobic and sexist remarks on Twitter.

Musical acts appearing over the weekend include The Killers, Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran and Lily Allen.

Last week, Scotland's T In The Park festival also announced an all-male line-up for its comedy tent.
