Parkinson and Ayoade scoop awards

The IT Crowd is a double winner at tonight's Bafta Awards.

Katherine Parkinson has won the gong for female performance in a comedy show over fellow nominees Frances De La Tour (for Vicious), Kerry Howard (for Him & Her) and Doon Mackichan (for Plebs).

Meanwhile Richard Ayoade triumphed over co-star Chris O'Dowd, who was also shortlisted, to take the male category. Also nominated were Matthew Baynton and James Corden for The Wrong Mans.

However Graham Linehan's sitcom could not make it a hat trick. Last year's one-off episode – largely considered the swansong after four series – was beaten in the sitcom category by The Wedding episode of BBC Three's Him And Her. Count Arthur Strong and Toast Of London were also shortlisted.

Linehan magnanimously tweeted from the ceremony in London's Theatre Royal on Drury Lane: 'Him and Her is great though! A worthy winner!'

And despite losing out in the acting category, Corden's Sky1 panel show A League Of Their Own triumphed over The Graham Norton Show, The Revolution Will Be Televised and Would I Lie To You? for the comedy and comedy entertainment award.

And the comedy entertainment performance gong went to Ant & Dec for their Saturday Night Takeaway, ahead of Charlie Brooker, Sarah Millican and Graham Norton.
