BBC Three renews comedies
BBC Three has announced that Bad Education, Bluestone 42 and Some Girls will all return for new series.
Jack Whitehall has already spoken of the third series of his school comedy, suggesting that it may be the last, although he subsequently tempered his comments.
But for now the BBC has confirmed that the series will return in the autumn.
It further announced that bomb disposal comedy Bluestone 42 has been commissioned for another six half-hour episodes.
Some Girls, about four 16 year-old schoolgirls in South London, has also been commissioned for a third run. Witten by Bernadette Davis, it stars Adelayo Adedayo, Mandeep Dhillon, Alice Felgate and Natasha Jonas.
The news comes as the BBC announced a new comedy, 600 Days, set in a Young Offenders Institution and starring Ellis James; and a pilot of silly police comedy Top Coppers, starring John Kearns and Conor McKenna.
The shows will all air on TV, ahead of the channel's planned move online only to save money.
Shane Allen, the BBC's controller of comedy commissioning, said: 'This raft of new and returning comedy series celebrates how successful the comedy on BBC Three remains, and is a timely reminder that we’re still very much open for comedy business.
'To have three comedies hit a third series stride is a monumental achievement. With Top Coppers and 600 Days we’re backing a new wave of talent as both have sublime casts and are exciting additions to the comedy slate on BBC Three.'
