New comedy about job insecurity

Channel 4 has ordered a new comedy series based on the fragile career paths of modern workers.

The six-part series, Cut, revolves around a group of dysfunctional civil servants, forced to relocate from London to Northampton and has been written by DC Moore, who has previously developed work through the channel's new talent strand Coming Up.

Characters include Katherine, who is turned down for an attractive redundancy package; Danny, who is permanently wasted despite his co-workers believing him to be a strict Muslim and the naïve and clueless Nathanial. However casting has yet to be announced.

The broadcaster describes the 45-minute episodes as 'full of black humour, razor sharp dialogue and intricately drawn relationship' and a 'timely workplace comedy drama that is laced with an acerbically surreal sensibility'.

Channel 4's head of drama said 'DC Moore is a very special talent and the perfect writer to give voice to a generation of young people for whom the first step on the career path is to realise that there no longer is one.'

And Murray Ferguson, chief executive of producers Clerkenwell Films added: 'DC Moore has created an unexpected, very funny yet searing portrayal of our lives, society and the personal challenges we face day by day.'
