Melbourne fest announces first shows
THE first names have been announced for next year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival. British and Irish acts performing at the event, which runs from March 26 to April 20, will include Jason Byrne, Stephen K Amos, Max & Ivan, Paul Foot Doc Brown, Milton Jones, Sara Pascoe and Late Night Gimp Fight.
BBC THREE hidden camera show The Revolution Will Be Televised has won the award for best comedy special at the Montreux Comedy Festival in Switzerland at the weekend.
SEAN HUGHES is to host a one-off radio panel show looking back at the quotes of the year. Fellow stand-ups Jason Byrne and Karl Spain will be on the teams of Don’t Quote Me, which will be be recorded in Dublin on Sunday and aired on RTE Radio 1 on December 27.
VETERAN US comic Don Rickles has been hit by the flesh-eating disease necrotising fasciitis. The 87-year-old says he will be back on stage in the New Year following successful multiple surgeries to treat the infection in his leg. His spokesman said: ‘He is doing wonderfully.’
STAND-UP comic and football writer Eddy Brimson has made a documentary following England fans called Some People Don't Get Football, I Don't Get Those People, which is available here as a £4.99 download.
