London Live buys hit comedies
New local TV channel London Live has signed a deal to air reruns of comedies such as Spaced, Twenty Twelve and Peep Show when it launches next year.
The station, run by the Evening Standard, has bought more than 150 hours of archive programming set in the capital.
Previously the broadcaster has announced it is making its own sitcom, All About The McKenzies, following its success as a YouTube channel.
Jonathan Boseley, London Live’s head of programming, said: 'This amazing content shows we mean business as an entertainment channel for young Londoners. These well-known and popular shows will draw audiences into our peak schedule and provide a halo for our own commissions from launch and beyond.'
Editorial director Stefano Hatfield added: 'It’s a tricky tightrope to walk between giving viewers series they know and love in order to draw them to the channel, and creating entirely new programmes that will define who we are. And, all the while, we have to stick to our London-focused proposition.
'The two deals help meet our aim to deliver content that is set in London and will appeal to a younger, urban audience.'
Smack The Pony is also part of the deal, as well as Spooks spin-off Code 9 and conspiracy thriller The Shadow Line.
London Live is die to launch in March on Freeview.
