NBC orders a remake

The BBC Three comedy Cuckoo is the latest British comedy series to be remade for the US market.

Although the original already stars American Andy Samberg, that’s not enough for the NBC network who have ordered a pilot of their own, set in the States.

In the BBC show, Samberg played the hippy a middle-class girl brings back to her horrified parents – played by Greg Davies and Helen Baxendale.

But he is unlikely to return for the remake now he stars in the successful Fox police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which will air on E4 in Britain.

Cuckoo’s creators, Robin French and Kieron Quirke, will write the US adaptation, with Simpsons veteran Tim Long as showrunner. All three executive produce alongside Roughcut TV’s Ash Atalla and Dan Hine, who also made the original, Hollywood website Deadline reports.

Cuckoo was BBC Three's biggest overnight comedy hit when it debuted last year, and a second series is in the pipeline.
