Chris Lilley revives Summer Heights High's Ja'mie King

Summer Heights High creator Chris Lilley is making a new sitcom based on his bitchy schoolgirl character Ja’mie King.

The six-part series is being made for BBC Three in association with ABC TV in Australia and HBO in the US.

Ja’mie King, a spoiled narcissistic and callous teenager, first started life in Australian comedy series We Can Be Heroes in 2005; and two years later was one of the key characters in Summer Heights High, attending the state-run school as a 'private exchange student'.

The new series, Ja’mie: Private School Girl, will see her back in her natural habitat, amid the manicured lawns of Hillford Girls Grammar School, where she will be in her final year.

Chris Lilley said: ‘I find teenage girls endlessly funny. So being able to write for and play the meanest bitch in school has been so fun. I can’t wait to show everyone what Ja’mie’s been up to.'

BBC Three controller Zai Bennett added: ‘I’m delighted that BBC Three’s relationship with Chris Lilley and his wonderful comedy creations continues.

‘Ja’mie certainly made an impact with our viewers when she first appeared on the channel five years ago and I have no doubt she’ll provoke a great reaction in this new series all of her very own.’

After Summer Heights High, Lilley made another mockementary, Angry Boys, which aired in 2011.
