Another comic sued for homophobia
A woman has filed a lawsuit against Eddie Griffin for violating her civil rights after he made allegedly homophobic remarks about her.
Leslie Champlin is also suing for battery after Griffin threw dumped water at her and her partner – although it was reported that Chaplin’s girlfriend threw her bottle of water at the comedian first.
The TMZ website, which posted a video of the aftermath of the incident in Pleasanton, California, last year, reports that Champlin is now seeking unspecified damages for civil rights violations, claiming she was discriminated against because of her sexual orientation.
Griffin reportedly thrust his crotch in their faces, and said they ‘would not need a strap-on or vibrator’ with his help.
At that point, Champlin's partner threw her drink at Griffin - and Griffin reacted by dumping his water on her. In the lawsuit, Champlin reportedly claims the crowd started pelting them with drinks as well.
The lawsuit follows the case of Canadian comic Guy Earl, who was fined the equivalent of £9,300 for unleashing a homophobic tirade against a female heckler in 2007.
