As a character called Crystal

Joan Collins is to appear on Benidorm.

The 80-year-old will play a fierce businesswoman called Crystal – the same name as her nemesis in the Eighties US soap Dynasty.

She broke the news on Twitter, posting: ‘Looking forward to going to Spain to be in Benidorm. And I'm playing Crystal yes I am!! But not the Dynasty one.’

Collins begins filming in Spain next month, with series six expected to air in the autumn. Her character is set to have run-ins with snooty hotel boss Joyce-Temple Savage, played by Sherrie Hewson.

Collins has long been a fan of the show, and two years ago her sister, Jackie, lobbied the shows creator Derren Litten for a role _ tweeting him the message: 'Benidorm is totally fab. My sis Joan Collins would love to do a guest shot on it. I got her addicted!!!'
