Mrs Brown's Boys outsells McIntyre

Say Amazon's DVD figures

Mrs Brown’s Boys looks set to be the biggest-selling live comedy DVD this Christmas after Amazon released details of advance sales.

The recording of Good Mourning Mrs Brown is outselling its nearest rival, Michael McIntyre’s Showtime by 19 per cent ahead of their release on Monday.

The two titles are the clear biggest sellers, with Mrs Brown selling more than three times as many as No 3 in the list, John Bishop.

Monday is one of two massive release days for live DVDs this autumn, with at least 12 titles being released.

Another 13 are released a week later – including Mrs Brown creator Brendan O'Carroll's pal Peter Kay, whose previous sales figures suggest he might be a big-hitter again in 2012.

A small handful more live stand-up titles will be released after then. Chortle has confirmed that at least 31 such DVDs will be released in the month between early November and early December.

But even that impressive figure is down on last year’s 38 releases.

Amazon’s John Boumphrey said: ‘It’s a first to see Michael McIntyre knocked off the top spot given his popularity in recent years but Mrs Brown’s Boys has been a huge hit on TV so it is no surprise to see the live show doing incredibly well.

‘It’s still early days but this is a good indication of who will have the last laugh this Christmas.’

Of the titles that are released on Monday, here is Amazon’s top rankings... although the official chart positions will not be known until Sunday week:

  1. Mrs Brown's Boys Live Tour: Good Mourning Mrs Brown
  2.   Michael McIntyre: Showtime
  3. John Bishop Live:Rollercoaster Tour 2012
  4. Sarah Millican: Thoroughly Modern Millican Live
  5. Kevin Bridges: The Story Continues...
  6. Dara O Briain: Craic Dealer
  7. Stewart Lee: Carpet Remnant World

Peter Kay’s Tour That Didn't Tour topped the final sales charts last year; John Bishop in 2010 and Michael McIntyre in 2009.
