Kay up for International Emmy
Peter Kay has been nominated for an International Emmy award for his TV talent show parody.
Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor... And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice is in the running for best comedy – one of nine nods for Britain in today’s shortlists.
The Channel 4 special is up against the Japanese show Hoshi Shinichi’s Short Shorts, Brazil’s The Slum and Germany’s Turkish for Beginners.
Other UK nominees include Spooks for best drama and Julie Walters for her role in A Short Stay in Switzerland, a drama about assisted suicide.
Bruce L Paisner, president of the academy that hands out the TV awards said: ‘As interest in our competition builds every year, the academy is proud to serve as a cultural showcase of television from all continents.’
The winners will be announced in New York on November 23 at a ceremony hosted by Graham Norton, at which David Frost will receive the special International Emmy Founders Award.
