Kay steals the show again

Another impromptu performance from Peter

Peter Kay has made an unannounced cameo appearance on stage – jumping out of a wardrobe in a posing pouch.

The comic surprised his actor friend Brendan O'Carroll with the stunt on the last night of his show, For The Love Of Mrs Brown, at the Manchester Opera House this weekend.

Kay played the gigolo character who appears at the very end of the show – a role usually played by a ‘hunk’.

But the comic fell as he clambered into the wardrobe and gashed his leg badly.

Steve Garner, a friend of both Kay and O’Carroll, told the Manchester Evening News: ‘He was in quite a bit of pain but he carried on like a pro.

‘Brendan had no idea what Peter had up his sleeve. He was expecting his daughter's boyfriend to play the gigolo as usual - he's quite a hunk. But then this guy with a big belly comes out instead, tips his hat and reveals that it's actually Peter Kay. Brendan was clearly lost for words.

‘I was asking Peter if the posing pouch was uncomfortable. He said not half as uncomfortable as the gash.’

For The Love Of Mrs Brown is the fourth stage outing for Irish comic O’Carroll’s creation, Agnes Brown.

Kay made a surprise guest appearance as a plumber at one of the earlier shows in Manchester, In 2005, he appeared also on stage at a Queen concert unannounced.
