Britcoms domintate TV awards

British comedies have dominated the prestigious Rose d'Or international  TV awards in Switzerland.

Spoof science show Look Around You was named best comedy, while Extras took home two awards: for best sitcom and for best sitcom actress for star Ashley Jensen.

Creator Ricky Gervais had not been nominated, but he did pick up an honorary award for his contribution to entertainment, as had previously been announced.

Stephen Fry was named best game show host for QI, and Channel 4’s Friday Night Project was named best variety show.

Jo Joyner from Five's Swinging was awarded best female comedy performance, while Chris Lilley from The Nominees on Australia’s ABC took the male category.

Other winners at the ceremony in Lucerne, Switzerland, included Deal or No Deal for best game show.

German star Bastian Pastewka won the best sitcom actor award for Pastewka.
