Frasier creator honoured

Writer killed in Sept 11 outrage

Frasier co-creator David Angell, who died on September 11 aboard one of the hijacked planes that ploughed into the World Trade Centre, is to receive a posthumous honour.

He is to receive the Valentine Davies Award at The Writers Guild of America's annual awards ceremony on Saturday.

The award, named after the writer of Miracle on 34th Street, is for those who "have brought dignity and honour to the profession of writing".

Guild president Victoria Riskin said: "In life, David Angell was a real gentleman, bringing a kindness and warmth to his scripts, his shows and his staff.

"In death, he has become an inspiration to many who never knew him personally."

Angell, 54, wrote for Frasier and Cheers, and produced both shows.

His wife Lynn was also among the passengers on American Airlines Flight 11.
