Dad's Army tops poll

Captain Manwaring's classic Dad's Army line: "Don't tell him, Pike" has been named the funniest TV line of all time.

The order, given after a German officer demands the name of the insolent Home Guard officer, topped an internet poll of around 1,000 people.

Second place was Basil Fawlty's "Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it."

Catchphrases also featured heavily in the list.

The others in the top ten, as voted for by BOL.com visitors, were:

3: Del Boy: "Rodney, you plonker."

4: Victor Meldrew: "I don't believe it!"

5: Jim Royle: "My arse."

6: Basil Fawlty: "What were you expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeeste sweeping majestically?"

7: Baldrick: "I have a cunning plan"

8: Captain Manwaring: "You stupid boy."

9: Angry customer: "It's not pining, it's passed on. This is an ex-parrot."

10: Trigger: "Alright, Dave?"

This was the same survey that named Monty Python's "He's a very naughty boy." The funniest film line. Film poll.
