Cockle club clams up

Welsh venue closes over noise

One of the few comedy clubs in Wales has had to close because of noise problems.

Comics playing the Psychotic Cockle in Swansea found it impossible to compete with a dance night using the main bar in its venue, The Monkey Café.

And they were frequently heckled by clubbers who would wander in on the comedy by mistake.

Organiser Dave Fellows promised the club will try to find another venue.

He said: "We will not be beaten, we are looking for another city centre venue and when we find one we will relaunch the club, probably with a different name.

"I don't see the closure of the Psychotic Cockle a bad thing, as another club will take it's place - we needed a change of venue anyway as the one we were using was too small."

The venue was opened in April last year by the Swansea Comedy Guild.
