Date of birth: 23-03-1980
Bristol-born Russell Howard started comedy as a teenager, making the finals of Channel 4's So You Think Your Funny? competition in 1999 in only his fifth ever gig. Two year later, he was also a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards.

He made his Edinburgh debut in 2002, sharing an hour-long show, and returned the following year as part of the long-running Comedy Zone showcase line-up. His first solo show was in 2004.

In 2006, he joined BBC Two's topical panel game Mock the Week as a regular panellist,which led to Russell Howard's Good News from 2009 to 2015, which became BBC Three's biggest entertainment show.

In 2014, he signed to Comedy Central to front a stand-up showcase and a travelogue in which he took his mum around the USA. And in 2016 he signed with Sky for a new entertainment show.

Russell Howard launches podcast

Inviting guest to put memories in their Wonderbox

Russell Howard is to launch a podcast, Wonderbox,  in which guests will recount the most memorable and funniest moments of their lives as a reminder of why they love life. 

The opening episode, on October 11, will feature musician Sam Ryder and comic Munya Chawawa.

Lined up for future episodes are the likes of John Oliver, Jimmy Carr Jack Whitehall, Greg Davies, Guz Khan, Jen Brister, Jordan Gray amd  Rachel Parris.

Howard said: ‘I love doing this podcast. I get interesting guests and I ask them what they love. In a world of misery, it’s an absolutely joyous celebration of the little things that make people tick.’

He is currently on tour, with dates in the US next month, and Australia and New Zealand early next year, as well as the UK gigs.

The podcast – made by Avalon, whose management arm represents Howard, will be available on all major podcast platforms.
