Comedian daughter Grace reveals his dirty tricks as a father

Tony Blair’s spin doctor Alastair Campbell has certainly got a reputation for the dark arts of twisting reality to his ends.

And that seems to extend to his parenting skills, too, as his comedian daughter Grace has revealed.

Talking to Alan Carr on his Life’s A Beach podcast, the stand-up told of how her dad used to tell her off for talking too loudly when she was a girl. 

And apparently it annoyed others, too, as she found out when she was on holiday across the Channel at the age of eight.

‘This Frenchman came over and told me, "If you carry on speaking this loudly you will be asked to leave the restaurant," she disclosed in comments picked up by The Times diary column today.  ‘I was shocked into submission for a few minutes.’

Also speaking on his podcast, Carr revealed that he was dressed as Hercule Poirot when he learned that his beloved Irish red setter Bev died in May 2022.

He was working on an Agatha Christie documentary when he took the call while in the guise of the Belgian detective.

‘It was the most surreal thing ever,’ he said.
