Could the comedian really have sparked a yo-yo craze?

An unusual snippet of comedy trivia comes via the Popbitch gossip newsletter today.

The celebrity website used its Boxing Day edition to look back at the notable deaths of 2024, including Camila Batmanghelidjh, the charismatic boss of the Kids’ Company  charity which collapsed in 2015 following reports of its  chaotic management and finances.

Among the organisation’s profligate spending, apparently she had amassed a warehouse full of branded yo-yos?

Why? Because she was apparently convinced that if she could persuade Omid Djalili to take up the hobby, it would kickstart a new yo-yo craze. 

It didn’t work. If you google the comedian’s name with ‘yo-yo’ all you get is references to his yo-yo dieting!
