Joe Wilkinson and David Earl record an England World Cup anthem

comedyHere’s a sample of a new England World Cup football anthem that Joe Wilkinson and David Earl have recorded in the hope of spurring on Gareth Southgate’s boys in Qatar.

The comics both star in Ricky Gervais’s After Life, and the song - Cup For The Cupboard:- was born out of their daily Chatabix podcast.

Wilkinson said: ‘We just wanted to help the team in any way - although I’m slightly worried my voice might actually put them off. If so then apologies to the nation in advance. I really enjoyed being the Andrew Ridgley to David’s George Michael.’

And Earl said: ‘I desperately want to be invited to an England game to have a lovely slap up meal, sit in a warm cosy seat and watch the team play. Then I want to meet the team, have a good laugh, make friends, and then start a WhatsApp group with all of them. This was my motivation for writing the song, no further questions please.’

It will be released exclusively on the Chatabix podcast feed on  November 1 and then available to download from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and elsewhere.

But they may have a fight on their hands as Frank Skinner and David Baddiel have recorded a new version of Three Lions with The Lightning Seeds‘ Ian Broudie for this year’s tournament.
