That could be the only explanation after Matt Selman, an executive producer on the animated comedy, uncovered a glaring mistake in an old episode which defies all logic.

In the season 6 flashback episode And Maggie Makes Three, tells the story of Maggie Simpson's birth.

One scene depicts Marge telling Homer of the unexpected pregnancy... yet on the wall in the background is a picture of Maggie, already born.

Showrunner Al Jean tweeted back: 'Canon is in ruins!' adding: 'I hope you're happy because we just fired SEVENTEEN people for that blunder. Fired. Through. Done.'

Some fans tried to explain away the error by claiming the image was an old photo of Lisa, and that Maggie would go on to wear her hand-me-down babygrows.
