Comic claims 50-hour longest stand-up record

Just days before another stand-up attempts the same feat

A Nigerian comedian is claiming a world record for the longest stand-up gig – a week before one of his countrymen was due to attempt the same thing.

Earlier this month Chortle reported how Mr Dolor - the stage name of Dolor Kevwe Obarkere –  was planning a 50-hour marathon in Lagos,  starting on February 27.

However, another comic, going by the name of Dr Laff Albert, pictured, completed his own 50-hour gig last weekend.

Writing on social media, he posted: ‘I'm overjoyed to see that it is no longer a thought anymore but a reality. We did it. 50 productive hours of comedy.  Guinness World Records Longest Stand-up Comedy Show By An Individual.

‘For everyone who was on [the] ground, and those that connected online, may God bless you.’

A spokesperson for Guinness World Records said that none of their  adjudicators were at the attempt, but added: ‘We look forward to receiving evidence for our records management team to review. ‘

Mr Dolor – who will now have to do slightly longer than he planned if he’s to take the title – previously said he was doing fitness training and endurance walks to prepare for his gig, as the longest show he'd previously performed lasted four hours.

The Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up comedy performance by an individual is held by American comic David Scott. Going by the name The Midnight Swinger, he performed for 40 hours and 8 minutes at the  Diamond Jo Casino in Iowa in April 2013.

The longest continuous stand-up comedy show by multiple comedians lasted 80 hours 5 minutes and was achieved  in Nashville, Tennessee in April 2015.
