Gavin & Stacey audience jumps to 18.5million

New record set as catch-up is included

The viewing figure for the Gavin & Stacey finale has swelled to 18.5million.

Consolidated figures show the 12.3million viewers who tuned in live on Christmas Day have been joined by 5.2million watching on catch-up in the following week.

It means the episode is now the most watched TV show in more than two decades, surpassing the 17.92 million who watched the last Christmas special in 2019.

The new figures also show Wallace And Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was seen by a total of 16.2million viewers within a week of it airing on Christmas Day – making it the most-watched film broadcast on British TV for 25 years.
