Omid Djalili backs new comedy talent hunt
Aspiring comedians could land a management contract under a new competition run by Simon Cowell’s streaming platform.
The Britain’s Got Talent impresario co-owns Lounges.tv, which aims to offer the most popular creators ‘career-boosting prizes’.
The platform will tomorrow launch a talent contest titled Best Stand-Up Comedian – Make Me Laugh In 3 Minutes, fronted by Omid Djalili.
The winner will earn a spot not he books of InterTalent Management, which represents Djalili, and a slot in one of his upcoming shows. The agency’s other comedy clients include Patrick Kielty, Cally Beaton and Siblings.
Djalili, who will be judging the talent, said: ‘I’m on the lookout for the next great stand-up comedian, and this competition is all about proving your punchlines in just 3 minutes.
‘This is a big chance. Get people behind you, get those votes, and who knows—you might be the one we’re looking for!’
To enter, you must download the Lounges.tv app, find the relevant Showcase competition, submit a video, and share it on your socials so fans can vote. The creators with the largest numbers of votes make it to a shortlist.
Cowell said: ‘I for one can’t wait to see what people upload to Showcase’
The streaming platform is backed by Prince’s former manager Kiran Sharma, BBC iPlayer founder Ben Lavender and TV personality Rob Rinder.
As well as comedy there are strands for musicians, fitness trainers, food and more.
