Glasgow Comedy Festival announces its first shows of 2025

Including Frankie Boyle, Susie McCabe – and Nicola Sturgeon

The first shows have been announced for next year’s Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

They include a live version of Frankie Boyle, Susie McCabe and Christopher MacArthur-Boyd’s Here Comes The Guillotine podcast, Val McDermid and Nicola Sturgeon hosting a book session, and stand-up from Jimeoin, Russell Kane, Jamali Maddix and more. 

The festival runs from March 12 to 25 and follows this year’s record-breaking event, which boasted more than 560 shows. More than 175 shows are already confirmed for next year across 21 venues.

McCabe said of performing a live version of Here Comes The Guillotine at the SEC Armadillo: ‘The three of us are really looking forward to sharing a stage together in our home town, and doing something a bit different from our established stand up!"

Former First Minister  Nicola Sturgeon joins crime writer Val McDermid for a session called ‘Books and Banter’ as they discuss titles they have loved, loathed and laughed at.

Other comics confirmed for the festival include Connor BurnsDarren Connell, Catherine Bohart, Kathleen Hughes and Edinburgh best newcomer winner Joe Kent-Walter in the guise of Frankie Monroe.

Festival director Krista MacDonald said: ‘Following 2024’s record-breaking year, Glasgow International Comedy Festival is set to once again host comedy’s biggest and best, alongside the industry’s rising stars, for a jam-packed 19 days of wall to wall comedy. We’re looking forward to celebrating Glasgow as the funniest city in the world.’ 

Venues currently registered to host festival events include The King’s Theatre, Oran Mor, The Stand Comedy Club, SEC Armadillo, Blackfriars, Platform, The Old Hairdressers and more.
