Fringe showcase for emerging comedy writers

Comedans to read scripts, directed by TV's Ed Bye

Comedy director Ed Bye – who has worked on the likes of Absolutely Fabulous, Red Dwarf and The Vicar of Dibley – is to help new comedy writing talent develop their scripts in a run of Edinburgh Fringe events.

In Table Reads: New Script Comedy Showcase, comedians will give live performances of works from up-and-coming talent, with Bye acting as director.

Each script will run for a week at Monkey Barrel Comedy, which is promoting the scheme with DLT Entertainment, the management and production company which co-sponsors the Edinburgh Comedy Awards and which previously made long-running BBC sitcom My Family.

The show welcomes script submissions from anyone – apply here – with a special callout for performers and writers living and/or working in Scotland.

Donald Taffner Jr, president of DLT Entertainment, said: ‘We have been thinking of doing table reads at the Fringe for a number of years. We look forward to working with the talented comedians and writers, and inviting audiences to experience a fundamental step in the television development process.’

David Bleese of Monkey Barrel Comedy added: ‘This show represents a significant opportunity for new and emerging writers to have their work seen and heard, and we’re delighted to bring such an exciting new project to the festival.’
Bonnie and Braw, an independent production company based in Edinburgh, will also be involved in  putting  on the show at Monkey Barrel at 11:20am daily during the Fringe.
