First episode of Liverpool-based comedy gets 1.7m viewers

Liverpool-based comedy G’wed has become the biggest comedy on the ITVX platform since Alan Carr’s Changing Ends, the broadcaster has announced.

Since its launch in February, the first episode has attracted  1.7million viewers across its streaming an broadcast slots.

The series as a whole has been streamed 4.9 million times, and is ITV2’s most watched programme of the year after Love Island.

Nana Hughes, ITV’s head of comedy, said: ‘It’s amazing to see the success of G’wed across ITVX and the linear channels, a true testament to the new talent involved.

‘I’m thrilled that G’wed has found a home at ITV and that the comedy resonated with our audience."

Executive producer Mario Stylianides, from Golden Path Productions, added: ‘This truly was a labour of love for everybody involved in the production of the show, so for it to connect with such a large and broad audience is something we are immensely proud of.

'For a first-time writer [Danny Kenny] and cast to hit the heights that they did is extraordinary.'
