Netflix to air Mark Twain Prize ceremony

Kevin Hart to be honoured by fellow comedians

Netflix is to air the ceremony at which Kevin Hart receives the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The comic will pick up the honour at The Kennedy Center in Washington March 24, following in the footsteps of previous winers such as Richard Pryor, Steve Martin and Tina Fey.

Now the streaming service has announced that the presentation will be recorded and released the platform on Saturday May 11.

The events will feature fellow comics including   Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Fallon, Chelsea Handler, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock.

Kennedy Center president Deborah Rutter said Hart ‘has made lasting contributions to the comedic landscape’, adding: ‘We express our gratitude to Kevin for enriching American culture and look forward to celebrating his exceptional career.’

And Hart said: ‘Comedy is my outlet for social commentary and observations on life—I am grateful to the Kennedy Center for recognising my voice and impact on culture. I can’t wait to celebrate.’

Netflix is said to have struck a multi-year deal to air future ceremonies, too.

The event has previously aired on various US broadcasters including Comedy Central, PBS and CNN.
