Leicester Comedy Festival announces its 2024 award nominees
The nominees for Leicester Comedy Festival 2024 Awards have been announced, now the two-and-a-half week event event has wrapped.
Organisers say they sold more tickets than ever this year – 22,388 directly from the festival’s box office, equating to a 10 per cent increase in sales from 2023.
This was for 1,026 performances of 754 different shows, an increase of about 12 per cent on last year – which means slightly lower ticket sales per show – including ten events streamed on NextUp.
During the festival, Kev Mud won the UK Pun Championships, Kevin Daniel won The Silver Stand Up competition and Eva Bindeman was crowned Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year.
Michael Harris-Wakelam, chief executive of the Big Difference Company which runs the event and the simultaneous UK Kids’ Comedy Festival, said: ‘It’s been another excellent year for our festivals and the strength and variety of shows on offer is clear to see from this list of nominees.’
And programme director Charlotte Laidet said the list of nominees ‘demonstrates the range and diversity of acts that perform at our festivals’.
Winners will be announced later this month,
