Liam Withnail announces his debut tour
Liam Withnail has announced his first UK tour.
The Edinburgh-based comic will perform his Chronic Boom stand-up show in 14 UK venues next year.
It revolves around his unexpected diagnosis of the inflammatory bowel disease ulcerative colitis last year, which resulted him spending ten days in hospital.
Facing the realisation he could suddenly have to return to hospital at any time, he set about creating a show made up of ten distinct five-minute routines, one for each day of that first hospital stay. The reasoning being he could more easily work on the shorter routines without having to arranging full work-in-progress shows that he may have to cancel at short notice.
This technique also underpins the narrative arc of the show, demonstrating how people with chronic illness or disabilities have to make changes every day to try to live as normally as possible.
Chronic Boom debuted at last year’s Fringe where it received a five-star review from The Independent and a slew of four-star reviews (including Chortle’s, here)
As well as being a circuit regular, Scottish Comedy Award winner and resident MC at the Monkey Barrel, Withnail has more than 10 million social media views He hosts the podcast Enjoy an Album, alongside Christopher MacArthur-Boyd and is a regular guest on BBC Radio Scotland’s Breaking the News.
Tickets for the tour go on general sale on Friday.
