Stephen Colbert renews Late Show deal

Comic will be hosting until at least 2026

Stephen Colbert has signed a deal to keep hosting The Late Show in the US until at least 2026.

George Cheeks, chief executive of the CBS network, revealed the news at the  Banff TV Festival, telling an audience: ‘We just extended him for three more years and I was praying for that to happen.’

He said the show – which is currently off air because of the Writers’ Guild Of America strike – was ‘absolutely crushing it’ before going dark.

In comments reported by Deadline, he said: ‘It’s just a great cohesive group that is firing on all cylinders and Stephen’s really enjoying himself.’

The news comes two months after James Corden hosted his last talk show for CBS, in the slot following Colbert’s.
