Danielle Walker is a Gold Digger
Stand-up Danielle Walker is to star in a new TV comedy set during the Australian gold rush.
The comic is one of the leads in the eight-part series Gold Diggers, alongside actress Claire Lovering, which has just begun shooting it Victoria.
Set in the 1850s, the comedy follows the adventures of sisters Gert and Marigold and their ambition to strike it rich by landing themselves idiots who have just become rich in the newly discovered gold fields.
Lovering plays Gert, ‘a headstrong party animal’, while Walker – nominated for best show at last year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival and a regular visitor to the Edinburgh Fringe – is Marigold, her blissfully naïve sister
The cast also includes musical comic Eddie Perfect as an ‘all-knowing barkeep’ and actors Megan Wilding, Luke Mullins, Brandon McClelland and Wil King.
Executive producers Linda Ujuk and JP Sarni said in a statement: ‘We’re thrilled filming has begun in the vibrant Victorian goldfields.
‘We’re proud to be producing such a timely, feel-good and immersive Australian comedy with our brilliantly talented team of key creatives, cast, directors and crew.
‘We are excited to see Claire and Danielle bring the unashamedly irreverent Brewer Sisters to life alongside our outrageously funny ensemble of Dead Horse Gap Townies.
‘This sensational cast will transport audiences to another world and have them laughing-out-loud.’
Gold Diggers will premiere on ABC later in the year. It is not yet believed to have been sold to the UK.
