Comedians clean up at Writers' Guild awards

Comedians Adam Kay, Jack Rooke and Michael Spicer all took home gongs at the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain awards tonight.

Kay won the best long-form drama award for This is Going to Hurt, the BBC medical comedy-drama based on his memoirs by the same name, starring Ben Whishaw as Kay.

Sitcom writing legend Maurice Gran presented Jack Rooke with the award for best TV situation comedy for his semi-autobiographical Channel 4 comedy Big Boys

The show, starring Dylan Llewellyn, Jon Pointing, is about two mismatched boys who strike up an unlikely friendship when they're thrown together at university.

Spicer won the best online comedy accolade for The Room Next Door –  specifically his take on Boris Johnson's resignation speech. The award was presented to him by improviser and actress Josie Lawrence.
