99 Club revives its bursary

For female and non-binary acts

London’s 99 Club has revived its bursary scheme for female and non-binary comedians after the pandemic hiatus.

Two acts taking their first full length solo comedy show to the Edinburgh Festival will received £500 and three others £100.

The 99 Club is the UK’s largest employer of comedians, and received a Chortle award for ten years running 2011-2020 inclusive.

Past bursary recipients include Sophie Duker, Sarah Keyworth, Helen Bauer, Catherine Bohart, Lauren Pattison and Janine Harouni.

A 99 Club spokesman said: ‘ We value our ability to offer a platform for diverse voices, and know that there are many more talented female & non-binary comics out there. We look forward to working with emerging talents, and are honoured to provide a foundation for their artistic development.’

The five shortlisted comedians will appear in a showcase in the West End in May, and will be judged by top industry professionals to decide which level of support they will receive.
