Vir Das to star in country music comedy

New series for America's Fox network

Stand-up Vir Das is writing and starring in a new comedy series about an Indian man who travels to America to make it as a country music singer, despite being awful at it.

The series, Country Eastern, is in development with the Fox network with Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg among the executive producers.

His character is a  wealthy man who moves to Memphis, Tennessee, but soon finds he has to gain some US life experience if he wants to have something real to sing about.

Das said: ‘It’s a unique comedy and I’m looking forward to filming the series soon.

He will co-write and executive produce the show with Sam Laybourne, who has previously written for shows including Black-ish, Cougar Town and Arrested Development.

Das  will next be seen in the Judd Apatow film The Bubble about a group of actors stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a film.

The cast also includes Rob Delaney, Leslie Mann, Karen Gillan, David Duchovny, Frend Armisen, Peter Serafinowicz, Donna Air, Sliced creator Samson Kayo and Borat breakout star Maria Bakalova.
