Comedy script contest for black and Asian writers
A comedy scriptwriting competition has been launched for black, Asian and other ethnic minority writers.
But, controversially, all those submitting a script to the Amplified Voices Through Comedy initiative must pay £15 to enter.
Finalists will see their scripts performed in front of a panel that includes head of UKTV Comedy Sarah Asante and Call The Midwife director Darcia Martin. They will all get a scriptwriting masterclass with the winner receiving £1,000.
Transition Stage Company, which is organising the competition, hopes to recapture the spirit of such shows as Goodness Gracious Me and The Real McCoy.
Submitted scripts should be ten minutes long, feature two or three characters and written by British citizens, residents or students who are black, Asian, or other ethnic minority.
