Mel Buttle joins Australian I'm A Celebrity
Comedians Mel Buttle and Ash Williams are taking part in the Australian version of I‘m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of here this year.
Buttle is already known to TV audiences as co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off alongside fellow comic Claire Hooper.
The stand-up, who is a familiar face on the stand-up circuit. said she said yes to the show as she was about to turn 40 - and because she has had an uncertain year because of the pandemic.
‘I thought, I’ve just been offered a great gig where I get to be funny and hang out with people and have challenges. What else am I going to do? Sit here and watch Dr Phil?" she told The Sydney Morning Herald.
She added: ‘I often know the comedians who end up in the jungle. So I watch it to watch my mates eat maggots and suffer.
And she reckons that as a Queenslander ‘I’ve eaten most of the stuff they’ll be offering us’.
Williams is an actor, comic and radio presenter, who was previously part of the Melbourne breakfast show hosted by Dave Hughes.
The show kicked off on Channel 10 tonight. It was prerecorded late last year in Australia, instead of its usual South African location.
Others in the jungle are presenters Grant Denyer, Toni Pearen and Jess Eva, singers Jack Vidgen and Paulini Curuenavuli, reality star Abbie Chatfield and former AFL star Travis Varcoe.
