John Robertson's Christmas roast
Comedian John Robertson is to host a three-hour Twitch show roasting the miserable events of 2020 to raise money for the Samaritans.
He aims to raise £7,710 from 7pm to 10pm on December 19 - the same amount the mental health helpline costs to run for three hours.
During #WeRoast2020, the Australian comedian will invite people to contribute their bugbears for him to insult, in exchange for any donation to the charity.
It is the latest in a number of charity streams Robertston has fronted this year, raising more than £40,000 for causes including the NHS, Mind, Black Minds Matter, End The Virus Of Racism, Centrepoint and Stand Up To Cancer.
His 48-hour marathon stand-up show The Dark Room raised over £25,000 for the NHS and Mind over Easter weekend alone.
Robertston said: ‘This year’s been brutal for people’s mental health, so I don’t want it buried, I want it roasted until it’s cremated.
‘Covid and Christmas have put people under so much strain that even Samaritans need help – so this is the perfect time to raise money for a service whose helpline keeps people alive. It’s also an excuse to behave very, very badly for a very good cause, and I like that.'
During his fundraising challenge on his Twitch page, the comic will also get annoyed with loud sound effects and be asked to perform physical challenges that may include sexy Bible readings and chilli sauce shots.
