Young Frankenstein to close this summer
The West End run of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein is to come to an end this summer.
It will close at the Garrick Theatre on August 25 before going on tour in the autumn of 2019.
Ross Noble initially starred as Dr Frankenstein’s weird sidekick Igor, as originally played by Marty Feldman in the 1974 movie. The comic won praise for his performance, but left the cast in February to return to his stand-up.
Noble was replaced by Cory English, appearing alongside Hadley Fraser in the title role – played by Gene Wilder on screen – and Lesley Joseph as Frau Blucher.
Brooks said: ‘Thank you London audiences for embracing Young Frankenstein and for making us such a smash hit in the West End.
‘I'm so happy that soon the rest of the UK will get a chance to see it... so see it before you die or you'll regret it forever!’
Directed by Susan Stroman, the show will have run in the West End for a year by the time it closes.
Dates of the tour will be announced later this year.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Brooks is coming to London in July for a Q&A alongside a screening of Blazing Saddles.
