Netflix talk show for Daily Show's Hasan Minhaj
Netflix has signed comedian Hasan Minhaj to he first Indian-American host of a weekly talk show.
Minhaj is currently a correspondent on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah but will quit the Comedy Central show in July to work on the new project.
The streaming service has ordered 32 episodes, which they say will ‘explore the modern cultural and political landscape with depth and sincerity’.
Minhaj said: ‘I’m thrilled to be joining the Netflix family as the country braces for another election season. And like you, I cannot wait to find out who Putin picks this time.’
Bela Bajaria, vice president of content for Netflix added: ‘I’ve been a big fan of Hasan’s for many years. He’s a phenomenal writer with a distinct point of view. He is a brilliant performer, who is hilarious both on stage and off, and more importantly he isn’t afraid to share his thoughtful voice and unique perspective. We are so excited to bring his new talk series to Netflix members around the world.’
Last year, Minhaj hosted the White House Correspondents' Dinner, while his one-hour special, Homecoming King, aired on Netflix.
Minhaj and his sketch comedy quartet, Goatface, are also making an hour-long special for Comedy Central next year.
This summer he will star in the movie The Spy Who Dumped Me alongside Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon.
