A key moment for Micky Flanagan...

Comic recognised for 21 dates at The O2

Micky Flanagan has been presented with the keys to The O2, after reaching the milestone of 21 performances at the London arena.

Prince first established the record in 2007, and any act to match his achievement receives the keys in recognition.

Flanagan first performed at The O2 in 2011 during Channel 4’s Comedy Gala, and returned for the same fundraiser the following year.

The comic brought his live tour to The O2 for the first time in 2013, and added six extra dates. And this year, he performed his An’ Another Fing… tour 12 times at the vast venue, bringing his total number of performances to the record-matching 21.

The key, designed and presented by The O2 team, was finished in gold and mounted on a velvet backing, mirroring Micky’s stage design. It will be on display backstage – on the way to the stage

Flanagan said: ‘Does this mean I can now fulfil my lifetime ambition of sliding down the roof of The O2 on a rainy day? Ideally naked but could put on my trusty thong (to avoid wedgie) if legally required.’

Emma Bownes, programming director at the ve said: "It’s great to be able to induct another act into the 21 Club, particularly one who has brought so much laughter to the venue over the years.’

Flanagan plays The O2 for the last time this tour on Saturday night.
