Morgan Rees makes BBC New Comedy final

Success in tonight's heat

Morgan Rees has become the latest stand-up to make it through to the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy award.

The Welsh comic  – who also made the finals of the Chortle Student Comedy Award last year – triumphed in the fifth heat, held at the Cardiff Glee club.

Runners-up were Cressida Wetton  and Patrick McCabe, who was also a finalist in last year’s Leicester Square Comedian Of The Year. Both have a chance of winning wildcard places in the BBC  semis, which will be announced after the final heat airs next week.

The Cardiff semi-final was recorded at the Glee Club earlier this month, and broadcast on Radio 4 Extra tonight.

Rees joins previous heat winners Ophélie Hocquard,  Huge Davies, Andy Field and Aaron Simmonds in the semis which takes place at the Edinburgh Fringe on August 5 and 6.

And the final will be on August 13, hosted by Mark Watson and airing live on Radio 4.
