Indian comic not coming to the Fringe

Indian comedian Vir Das has pulled out of the Edinburgh Fringe.

The comic had planned 13 nights with his ‘musical genre-bending comedy rock explosion’ Alien Chutney.

However the shows – as well as a one-off stand-up date in his Boarding Das world tour – have been cancelled because of ‘unavoidable circumstances'

Das was last month damed one of Variety magazine’s 10 Comics To Watch for 2017, following the release of his special Abroad Understanding on Netflix, a first for an Indian comic.

However, he is still scheduled to come to the UK in September as part of his world tour. (UK dates)

A spokesman for Soho Theatre, which was producing the shows at the Gilded Balloon, said: ‘We were really excited to bring Alien Chutney to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, but due to unavoidable circumstances this will not be possible. We hope to return with the show next year.’

Last month we reported how Daily Show comedian Hasan Minhaj had pulled out of his UK  trip this summer, including his Fringe dates.
