Jessie Nixon is our fifth and final Hotshot

Comedian on her way to the Edinburgh Fringe

Jessie Nixon has been picked as Chortle’s fifth Hotshot, ahead of her Edinburgh Fringe debut this summer.

The comic has previously made the final of Funny Women and the Leicester Comedian Of The Year, and has supported Fern Brady, Lou Sanders and Helen Bauer on tour.

Her festival show, Something Sexy And Quirky is described as ‘classic, gag-heavy stand-up from a comedian forged in the fires of the club circuit’ but with theatrical elements such as a  musical number entitled I Quit My Job At The Civil Service For This. She was selected as one of our Hotshots at a showcase in Bristol’s Gaffe comedy club last night. Here is an extract from her set:

The other hotshots for 2025 are Liam Tulley, Vinny Shiu, Dean Coughlin and Alex Stringer. Tulley’s show Baldilocks will be at Just The Tonic at the Mash House, with details of the others yet to be confirmed. They all have their Fringe registration fee paid and a package of advertising and other assistance from Chortle.

Our attentions now turn to the Student Comedy Award, with the first semi-final taking place in Edinburgh’s Monkey Barrel comedy club on Sunday.

Taking part are Maggie Johnson, Robert Mac an Tuile, Eva Rieckewald, Lydia Allan, Eva Peroni, Roddy Gordon, Robin Fodor, George Rook and Junaid Afzal - and tickets are available here.
