It Ain't Half Hot Mum's John Clegg dies at 90
John Clegg, who played La Di Da Gunner Graham, in It Ain't Half Hot Mum, has died at the age of 90.
In a notice placed in the Daily Telegraph, his family said he died peacefully in care ‘and will be missed by all his friends from the theatre, his friends in Chichester and his family.’
Clegg played the concert party's pianist in all 56 episodes of It Ain't Half Hot Mum, which ran from 1974 to 1981.
He also had a recurring role in the sitcom You Rang, M’Lord? – which featured many of the same actors – playing Mr Franklyn, the Meldrum family solicitor
His other appearances include Dad's Army, Are You Being Served?, Coogan's Run and Bless This House, plus a short stint as Clifford Howes in the soap opera Crossroads
Morris Bright, chairman of the board at Elstee Studios, posted on X: ‘We is very sorry indeed to hear that La Di Da Gunner Graham, actor John Clegg, has gone to that great concert party in the sky, aged 90. He certainly was one of the boys who entertained us.’
And Hi-Di-Hi star Jeffrey Holland wrote: ‘So sad to hear John Clegg has left us. Fond memories of working with him on It Ain’t Half Hot Mum. We shared so many laughs. Always the consummate professional. I shall miss our Thetford reunions! Sleep well old friend.'
