Get happy in the abbey

The week's best live comedy

The best of the week's live comedy, picked from the thousands of events Chortle currently has listed. Use our search panel to check our full listings by date and region.

Sunday July 28

LEEDS: The grounds of historic Kirkstall Abbey provide a great setting for an all-day comedy festival today. Big names include Katherine Ryan, Reginald D Hunter and Ross Noble – but the bill's strong from start to finish, also including Maisie Adam, Mike Wozniak, Stephen Bailey Clinton Baptiste, Ivo Graham, Jason Cook and Jeff Innocent. Tickets

Monday July 29

LONDON: The Camden Fringe kicks off today for the 18th time, with more than 300 shows across all genres being performed in intimate theatres and pubs of the borough and beyond. The festival runs for four weeks but each show normally performs two or three dates, so plenty of variety. Browse the programme here

Tuesday July 30

LONDON: Mischief, the comedy troupe behind The Play That Goes Wrong, bringing their improvised Mischief Movie Night back to The Other Palace in Victoria for a five-week run from tonight, with the team bringing a full movie to life based on a genre, location and title suggested by the audience. Tickets.

Wednesday July 31

EDINBURGH: A little thing called the Fringe gets under way in earnest. Probably won't amount to much. Check out our listings. here.

Friday August 2

BELFAST: Eight of Northern Ireland's comics come up to the oche of the Devenish Complex to play some darts and have some laughs. Due to take part are Aaron Butler, Sean Hegarty, Dave Elliott, Darren Matthews, Micky Bartlett, Tommy McCarthy, Paddy Raff and Jazmynne Sierra.

Saturday August 3

FAREHAM: Lloyd Griffith was due to tour earlier this year, but filming for BBC One's upcoming Death In Paradise Australian spin-off series Return to Paradise got in the way. He's now doing the rescheduled dates for his Barqoue & Roll tour – including six nights in his native Grimsby - until late November. The comic, who regularly supports Jack Whitehall on his arena tours, is also a chorister, singing at Westminster Abbey, St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and elsewhere. Lloyd Griffith tour dates.

BATH: There's a strong bill at the Komedia tonight with sharp and wry Michael Fabbri, superbly cynical Sean McLoughlin, musical Kate Lucas, and top-flight competing from Sally-Anne Hayward.
