George Egg to publish Snack Hacker cookbook

Spin-off from comedian's hit online videos

Comedian George Egg is to publish a recipe book, based on the success of his online cooking videos.

The Snack Hacker started as a lockdown project to offer tips for unpretentious cooking and has gone on to rack up millions of views.

Now Blink Publishing has acquired the rights to what will be the foodie comic’s first recipe book, also called The Snack Hacker, to be released in June 2025.

Egg said: ‘What a joy it is that the lovely folk at Blink share my vision of this cookbook; a natural progression from my online videos that appear to have brought me to the public’s attention.

‘Obsessed with and genuinely proud of the ideas I’ve come up with, I can’t wait to put into print the recipes and the stories around them and to inspire my readers and fellow foodies to think outside the culinary box.

Snack Hacker cover - possibly‘It’s even more exciting to be creating what promises to be a very beautiful book with the help of my illustrator, designer and son, Jem Ward (the ever present camera-person in the online videos).’

Blink’s senior editor Joe Hallsworth acquired worldwide, all-language rights to the book from Egg’s literary agent David Luxton.

Hallsworth said: ‘I’ve been an enormous fan of George’s Snack Hacker output for years and so I’m beyond excited to be publishing his first recipe book.

‘The Snack Hacker will bring George’s boundless creativity, ingenuity, energy and anarchic spirit to the page and I can’t wait for this to become a well-thumbed, sauce-stained, kitchen staple for years to come.’

Egg was named content creator of the year at the Fortnum and Mason Food and Drink Awards 2024 for for his channel, which has featured the likes of Romesh Ranganathan, Tim Key and Mackenzie Crook as guests

Blink say of the book: ‘George delivers delights that will appeal as much to the food-fanatic as they will to the culinary curious - a crash course for the undiscovered gourmand and a reminder to the seasoned foodie that it's OK to have fun in the kitchen.’

It’s further described as ‘an inspiring approach to unpretentious cooking whether you're a professional chef, a home cook or a kitchen-shy greedy-guts’.

Since 2015 Egg has written, produced and performed four live cooking-with-comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and on tour. He has also appeared – and cooked – on Channel 4's Bake Off: An Extra Slice and Steph's Packed Lunch, ITV's This Morning and BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends, on which he has been a regular co-hosts. He currently appears every Monday on Craig Charles' BBC 6 Music show where he talks snacks.

The Snack Hacker will be published in hardback and ebook on June 5, 2025 and is available to order now from Amazon.
