'Lord' Christian Brighty to record a Radio 4 series

Bridgerton-style parody featuring his Regency-era fop

The aristocratic Regency-era alter-ego of comedian Christian Brighty is to star in his own Radio 4 comedy.

The Many Wrongs of Lord Christian Brighty will parody the likes of Bridgerton, Poldark and Jane Austen when it airs later this year.

Brighty has written the series with regular collaborator  Amy Greaves, whose online sketches featuring the privileged fop have attracted more than 100 million views on TikTok and Instagram.

The series will be recorded in front of a studio audience next month.

Brighty  said of the commission: ‘This is an absolute dream come true. The idea that I’m getting to write and star in our own sitcom still doesn’t feel real.’

And he thanked his online followers, saying: ‘This opportunity genuinely wouldn’t have happened without all your support. It’s come about basically because of people liking the silly videos I make.’

Brighty debuted his character at the 2022 Edinburgh  Fringe (read our review here). He is described as a ‘celebrated libertine, a heartthrob and a hero to many – but close-up, he is a spoilt, impetuous, life-ruining bastard’.

However the new radio show takes places after he has an epiphany that upends his previously carefree life of ‘casual debauchery, non-stop revelry and infinite privilege’.

After being shot by a cannon after a new servant’s hazing Ritual goes awry, he is delivered some home truths by his uneducated but forthright chambermaid Babbigail (Babs for short) - who  becomes the first person ever to tell him the unvarnished truth about himself and the consequences of his actions.

The show will be recorded on July 8 and 18 at Hoxton Hall in East London and free audience tickets are available from Standing Room Only.
